Marion Tennis Girls number one doubles team showed out at the 5A East conference tournament this year. As well as being named all-conference players, Kelly Pedersen and Kora Wilson came in 3rd place in the girls doubles tournament draw. Kelly and Kora will play in the 5A State Tennis Tournament next Mondayand Tuesday! We are so proud of you, Lady Patriots!

Since the beginning of the school year Marion School District has placed pick up locations providing meals for our virtual students. In an attempt to reach more students, the district will begin sending buses out beginning Monday, October 12, 2020. Please use the link provided below for areas, times and locations. We want to encourage all parents or students to take advantage of these meals being offered at no cost to families. Each student will be provided 5 prepackaged breakfast and lunches. If you plan on picking meals up, please be at one of the locations listed at the time listed. Buses will stop if someone is waiting. Requirements for picking up meals: Parents will be allowed to pick up student’s meals but they must have the student’s MSD ID and the student must be listed on the virtual student list in order to receive the meals. NATIONAL CUSTODIAL WORKER’S RECOGNITION DAY Marion High School is blessed to have such a special group to take care of us all and our campus. October 2nd, National Custodial Worker’s Recognition Day encourages appreciation to the employees who keep our schools and workplaces across the nation running smoothly.  Custodial workers operate behind the scenes. They are often under-appreciated for the hard work they do day after day, too. These are the personnel keeping schools, hospitals, office buildings, museums, churches, and other buildings clean and well maintained. While delivering outstanding services and running a well-maintained building, they contribute to critical first impressions and the success of any business. They’re the people we call on to give our brick and mortar businesses a polished look. The bank, schools, and office buildings look organized and presentable because custodial workers efficiently keep everything in top condition.

Banned Books Week (September 27 - October 3, 2020) is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Typically held during the last week of September, it spotlights current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools. It brings together the entire book community — librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular. The books featured during Banned Books Week have all been targeted for removal or restriction in libraries and schools. By focusing on efforts across the country to remove or restrict access to books, Banned Books Week draws national attention to the harms of censorship.

9/28/20 Marion School District received notification of a positive case of COVID-19, involving one of our auxiliary staff members, this afternoon. The positive case has been reported to the Arkansas Department of Health. In addition, all identified close contacts to the positive case have been notified and are following the quarantine orders set forth by the ADH. Parent Responsibilities for Virtual Students Please recall that as we outlined in the information provided to you before the start of school, that while the teacher is responsible for providing the curriculum and the instruction, the parental involvement is crucial in order for virtual learning to be successful for a student. It is essential that parents monitor student activity daily, ensure that assignments are completed on time, and encourage students to stay on track. While we understand that many challenges arise from maintaining work schedules and commitments while you are supporting your student's efforts at home, these expectations are vital to the success of your student(s). If at any time the demands of virtual learning become too difficult for your family to maintain, please know that your student(s) are welcome to return to the classroom for face-to-face instruction- by simply contacting your school’s main office. Recommended Time on “School Work” The following are recommendations from the Marion School District for the amount of time (per subject) a student should be engaged in school work each day through any delivery model. This includes instruction and assignments. Recommendations are based on a review of guidance from other states and discussions with local schools and parents. We want parents/students to focus on the process of learning. Engagement is the key to reducing any learning regression. Recommended Time on “School Work” (per subject) Grades: PK-4 -- 30-60 minutes a day, maximum of 5 hours a week 5-8 -- 45-90 minutes a day, maximum of 7 ½ hours a week 9-12 -- 60-150 minutes a day, maximum of 12 ½ hours a week Students in Honors, AP, or concurrent courses will most likely exceed the recommended times.
