The Patriot Pride Marching Band has a new addition to their practice parking lot.
“This is the new band tower for the Marion Patriot Pride Marching Band,” said Monty Hill, Marion School District director of bands.
On Friday, with support from Dr. Glen Fenter, superintendent, and Richard Atwill, assistant superintendent for maintenance and operations, workers installed the 27 1/2-foot tower in the senior parking lot at Marion High School, which also doubles as a practice field for the band.
Hill dubbed the new tool a “state-of-the-art” addition that will not only help directors but also prepare musicians for marching season.
“It's a duplication of a height that judges will be able to see in a contest, and it sets us apart from most programs in the state of Arkansas,” added Hill.
He is excited about utilizing this bigger and better tower. Hill said, “It’s a lot safer for the directors because of the stairs instead of the ladder. The height is better, and it has different levels, so other directors can be on it.”
Hill, his directors, and the Marion Patriot Pride Marching Band may be thrilled with this upgrade, but Hill said it couldn’t have been possible without support from Marion High School, the Marion School District, and the community.
“Unbelievable amount of administrative support and school board support. There’s no place like Marion, Arkansas,” said Hill.
