Our goal is to serve as a hub of 21st century learning for students choosing a non-traditional route to their education to actively participate in collaborative and connected learning environments that are technology-enhanced so that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in a world where change is constant and learning never stops.

HUB PROCESS

Students will be identified and referred for placement to The Hub for qualifying characteristics that indicate the presence of at least two barriers to their success in traditional programs and are in need, based on those barriers, of a non-traditional route to continue their education in order to graduate, learn employability skills through our JAG (Jobs for Arkansas Graduates) programs, earn certificates of completion and associates degrees through their participation in our partnering career centers, and learn valuable 21st century technology skills to prepare them for college and career readiness while still enrolled in high school.

HUB SUPPORT SERVICES

Regional hubs and satellite campuses will provide flexible options to meet the needs of each student. The Hub will utilize a blended-learning environment using our teachers or the districts’ teachers to provide direct-assistance, differentiated learning options, and a flexible work schedule to meet the needs of all students. We will customize an approach that works, keeping in mind, that we teach students-not just subjects. The curriculum integrates the JAG (Jobs for Arkansas Graduates) skills and competencies that utilize high-yield strategies and project-based learning activities that are engaging and motivate the individual learner while preparing them for college and career readiness. Learning and innovation skills increasingly are being recognized as the skills that separate students who are prepared for increasingly complex life and work environments in the 21st century, and those who are not. A focus on creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration is essential to prepare students for the future.

The Hub offers a non-traditional approach that addresses the truth that today we live in a technology and media-suffused environment where access to an abundance of information, rapid changes in technology tools, and the ability to collaborate and make individual contributions on an unprecedented scale is vital to success in the 21st century workforce. To be effective in the 21st century, citizens and workers must be able to create, evaluate, and effectively utilize information, media, and technology. The Hub creates and fosters a non-traditional learning environment of associates; not just students, who learn valuable employ-ability skills before completing high school. As associates, students must stay on a pathway of success by working with a coach or mentor who guides them through the process with mental health support services, job placement and apprenticeships, non-traditional educational opportunities, and incorporates an accountability program where students as associates, must focus on production standards. For example, students must produce a designated amount of work each week in order to continue a flexible schedule.

Some of the work is completed on site and some, utilizing the flipped classroom concept, is completed off site using technology-enhanced learning projects. All resources are offered to the student with full access during school hours and also at their own convenience working around and with their work schedule in order to offer a flexible, non-traditional route to their education.

Waiver for an Arch Ford HUB program:

A waiver issued to the participating districts for the Arch Ford Education Service Cooperative to manage the Hub’s blended-learning approach enabled districts flexible seat time to offer a choice for students and their parents within the public school systems who exhibit the need for a more flexible and non-traditional route to their education. With the enactment of ACT 867, districts can now offer flexibility of seat time as outlined in ADE Rules and Regulations.
