Flat Stanley in NYC Part 2

Flat Stanley in NYC Part 2

When we last saw Stanley he was visiting the different sites in NYC showing us how things are different there during the pandemic.  Just as a reminder from our first article; Mrs. Murphy’s class at VPA created this Flat Stanley and sent him to Michael Conwill in New York City right before the schools went on the extended break.  They would like to share with you the many adventures that their Flat Stanley has experienced during this pandemic.  Here is the link to all pictures in this article:  https://bit.ly/VPAflatstan

Flat Stanley is in Central Park!

Central Park is a big, famous park, but there are four other parks even bigger than Central Park in New York City. And in these pictures you’re only seeing a little bit of this park.

You can see there aren’t many people around, and those people are wearing their masks just like Flat Stanley. We can go to parks if we stay 6 feet away from anyone else.

You can see the city all around the park. New York City has had tall buildings for a long time, for over a hundred years, but the really tall buildings you see here are not as old as you are! They’re being built now or just have been built.

Flat Stanley would like to see all of Central Park, but there’s so much of it! That’s good - it means you can go again and again to this park and see new places and things.

New York City has lots of libraries all over the city. This is a big famous one named the Mid-Manhattan Library.

It has two lions in front. Right now they’re reading books. Libraries are full of good books to read!

And behind this library is Bryant Park. Sometimes part of the park has big tents on it for fashion shows, or it has a big screen for showing movies on summer nights, and in the winter it has an ice-skating rink. The rest of the time it’s a big green lawn, like this.

Flat Stanley is in front of a big train station.

This is Grand Central Terminal, but people usually just call it Grand Central Station.

New York City has other towns and cities all around it. Lots of people who live outside New York City travel into the city to go to work, and a quick way to get here is to take a train. Driving a car here would take longer because there’s usually so much traffic. Lots of people also take the trains to travel to other places.

This is the street in front of Grand Central Terminal. It would be full of cars if we weren’t all staying at home.

This is what it looks like inside. See, they’ve even taped off the windows where you buy train tickets because almost no trains are running now that people are mostly staying at home.

You don’t see Flat Stanley here because he was taking the pictures.

Here’s one more picture of Grand Central Terminal. People can borrow those bikes to ride around town, or to and from the train station.
