Media Access to Campus
We gladly welcome media members into our schools; however, the Communications Department should be the first point of contact for all inquiries. News media is not permitted on any district property without prior consent from the Director of Communications.
Interviewing and Photographing students
Marion School District operates in compliance with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This law allows students and parents to opt out of the release of certain information about students, including photographs. Each school is responsible for maintaining a database to determine who cannot be photographed and interviewed according to FERPA guidelines via the district’s consent form.
Press Releases, News Conferences, Media Notification
The Communications Department is responsible for coordinating all news coverage of the school district and overseeing official communication between the district, its schools, and news media.
The superintendent of schools (or a designee) and the director of communications will serve as the primary spokespersons for the district. All media inquiries should be submitted by phone at (870) 739-5100 or e-mail at email@example.com.
In the event of an emergency, Marion School District will work cooperatively with members of the media to provide timely and accurate information through a spokesperson, written releases, or news briefing.
All media calls should be forwarded to the Communications Department.
