Marion Junior High School is one of seven schools that make up the Marion School District . The school is located at #2 Patriot Drive on 1-55, just south of the Marion exit.
The main junior high building was constructed in 1987. There is 49,000 square feet in the building which has a total of thirty regular classrooms. The building also houses a main office, library nurse's office, a library, a counselor's office, and book and supply room. There is a closed circuit television system, and each classroom is equipped with a television. On each teacher's desk, there is a networked computer with a CD-ROM player. The junior high also uses other nearby space including the high school's gym, the high school cafeteria and band room, as well as ten (10) portable classrooms located just east of the main building.
Marion Junior High serve six hundred and seventy (670) eighth and ninth grade Students . The school has two administrators, forty-six certified teachers and nine (9) classified employees. In addition, the students are offered classes from five (5) high school teachers. The core curriculum includes English, math, social studies, and science The eighth-graders also take a semester each of career orientation art, and keyboarding. In addition to core classes, the ninth-grade take PE and health as well as electives in foreign language, computer technology, family living, driver's education, speech, and advanced math and English. Resource, self-contained, compensatory, and gifted/talented programs are also available for qualified students. In many classrooms, teachers supplement classroom lessons with interactive SmartBoards, educational television and other Internet
programming.
Extracurricular activities at Marion Junior High School include band, choir, football, basketball, golf, tennis, track, girls' volleyball, and girls' softball. Students serve as office workers, library workers, and fire marshals. The school sponsors a National Junior Honor Society, Student Council, Christian Club, French Club, Spanish Club, Future Homemakers of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Quiz Bowl.
