Course Description: American Government challenges students to understand the fundamental laws, structure and processes of our political system.

Supplies: Notebook, blue or black pens, pencils, paper

Classroom Rules and Procedures:

Ø       Students must be in the classroom and seated before the tardy bell.
Ø       Students must come to class prepared to learn!! NO RED ink, no assignment will be accepted in red ink. Blue or black ink only.
Ø       Students must have a notebook for this class.
Ø       Students must attend to all personal needs before class (bathroom, office, etc.)
Ø       Specific assignments will be assigned. Appropriate time to fulfill these assignments will be given. Due dates will be enforced.
Ø       Follow all instructions given by the teacher.
Ø       Handbook guidelines will be enforced in the classroom. {Example: NO personal electronic devices in class. (Ipods, cell phones, etc.)}
Ø       Make-up work is the STUDENTS responsibility.

Schedule:
August- September: Unit 1---Principles of Government; textbook chapters 1& 23, handouts, reading assignments, notes, activities, videos, exams.

October:  Unit 2---Origins of America; textbook chapter 2, handouts, reading assignments, notes, activities, videos, exams.

November- December:  Unit 3--- The Constitution; textbook chapters 3& 4, handouts, reading assignments, notes, activities, videos, exams.

January:  Unit 4--- The Presidency; textbook chapters 13 & 14, handouts, reading assignments, notes, activities, videos, exams.

February- March: Unit 5---Congress, textbook chapters 10, 11&12, handouts, reading assignments, notes, activities, videos, exams.

April- May: Unit 6--- Judicial Branch, textbook chapters 18&19, handouts, reading assignments, notes, activities, videos, exams.

Flexibility Clause: Unforeseen circumstances may cause parts of this syllabus to be omitted.
