The Art Gallery is located in room 30 in the new wing of the second grade building.

Students will be exposed to the elements and principals of art in a short lesson each week and then spend the remainder of the time producing an art project which contains what the students learned that day.

Art is so important because all subjects can be integrated into the art curriculum.  Art is special because each child can be successful.  Mrs. Fogleman stated, "We are having a wonderful time learning.  It is exciting to see so much talent!"

Computer Lab

The Computer Lab is located in room 32 of the new wing of the second grade building.

When the students come to the computer lab, they begin each class period using the Keybo program.  Keybo is designed to help the students learn basic keyboarding skills and mouse usage.  However, the main focus of the computer lab is the Orchard program. Orchard is a research based curriculum enhancing program. It is based upon time-tested instructional practices that current research has proven to be effective across a large number of students. Orchard's reading and math assessments are specifically correlated to the Arkansas state standards.

Library

Our library is located in room 17 on the first floor of the third grade building.

The MES library supports our curriculum frameworks and student achievement with almost seven thousand age/interest appropriate books.  Students come to the library during a 40 minute period each week with their class to check out books and learn library concepts. Individual students may also come to the library in the mornings as they need to to check out new books.  Students learn and apply library skills including the parts of a book, call numbers, and the Dewey Decimal System.  Our students learn about books awards, such as the Caldecott Medal and participate in choosing the Arkansas Diamond Award each year.

In addition to being the hub for reading, the library also maintains a great media collection to enrich the curriculum and a professional and parent section.

Some of our favorite books include:  the Authur series, Junie B. Jones series, Magic Tree House series and the Bailey School Kids series.

The MES physical education program is designed to teach kids that being healthy can be fun.  Students are taught about the bones and muscles, safety, manipulative skills and how to live a healthy lifestyle.  We believe that a positive atmosphere brings about positive results, hopefully, results that will help students to maintain a healthy lifestyle into adulthood.
