Gifted and Talented Education
All students receive enrichment in their classrooms.
Enrichment activities are regularly planned as part of daily activities in math, language, and units of study.

Leah Schmidt, our GT teacher, provides differentiated lessons in each classroom. Mrs. Schmidt is a certified Gifted and Talented teacher in the Marion School District. She sees every student in kindergarten through third grade every other week. The week she is not at Avondale, the students do a follow-up lesson that reinforces the lesson Mrs. Schmidt previously taught.
At Avondale Mrs. Schmidt teaches a fun and exciting hands-on science curriculum. She uses the Quirkles Science Series. The Quirkles are 26 imaginary scientist that help children develop a love and appreciation for science. The series explores phonics through science, which creates an enthusiasm for both reading and science.
Mrs. Schmidt also administers the GIFT test to the entire first grade, and the Raven to all of the second grade students. Additionally, she administers the K-BIT test to all of the GT referral students in third grade.
