On February 28, the Marion High School Choirs traveled to Searcy, AR, where they participated in the Region 1 Choral Performance Assessment. At this assessment, choral ensembles performed prepared pieces for a panel of three choral adjudicators. The choirs also had three minutes to sightread a piece of music which they had never seen for a single adjudicator. Both choirs received a Division I rating, the highest rating available at the assessment. This rating qualifies both choirs to sing at the Arkansas State Choral Festival on at the University of Central Arkansas where they will compete with choirs across the state. The MHS choirs have won the state festival previously with designations of "Best in Class," "Sweepstakes Award," and "Best Overall Ensemble for 6A Schools" as well as in previous years winning "Best of Class" at the University of Mississippi Choral Festival.
