Marion Elementary School Principal Adam O’Neal and second-grade teacher Clista Wood were featured speakers at the 10th Annual Future Educators’ Forum at Arkansas State University Mid-South Thursday. In addition, several guest speakers were there to speak to students who were in teacher cadet programs from Marion High School, The Academies of West Memphis, and Jonesboro High School. There were also students from ASU Jonesboro and ASU-Midsouth in attendance. Wood presented on "Stories From the Classroom." She shared personal stories that were meaningful to her and her career. O’Neal spoke on "What Principal's Look for When Hiring" and discussed what qualities administrators look for in a teacher candidate and how will they fit at our school. Takelia Carter, from Richland Elementary, also spoke on "The Character of a Teacher.” Also there speaking were representatives from ASU and Jeff Dyer, Recruitment and Retention Program Advisor for the Arkansas Department of Education. O’Neal said it was encouraging to see young people excited about becoming educators and improving not only the teaching profession but the community as well.
