It is the mission of Marion Middle School to provide a challenging curriculum in a safe environment, conducive to learning, while meeting the diverse needs and interests of ALL our students.  We will teach and motivate our students in academic, social, technological, creative, physical fitness, and problem-solving skills needed to become productive, respectful, responsible, and successful citizens in the ever-changing world.
The Marion School District does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, or veteran status.

Attention, Parents:  Due to the large number of vehicles coming through our driveway each morning, please drop off students as quickly as possible.  We understand last minute details arise, but please try to take care of those before you reach the campus.  If you find that you need extra time with your child, please park in an available parking space or pull your vehicle forward as far as possible away from the front of the building. You know better than we do how bad the morning traffic can be. Let's work together to make it easier for all. Thank you so much!

IMPORTANT: The construction site for our New Junior High School between Carter Drive and Complex Drive is off limits (NO TRESPASSING) to all students. Students are not permitted to travel through the site on their way to and from school or to be on the site at any time. This is a safety and security issue for the contractor and the school district. Any unauthorized person on the construction site will be considered trespassing. The police will be called.

MMS CURRICULUM HIGHLIGHTS
BENCHMARK BOOSTER CLUB:  Benchmark Booster Club is after school tutorial sessions that are aimed at increasing the students' academic abilities and their understanding of the state standards. This service is offered to eligible students each semester. Letters will be mailed to those students and their families prior to the beginning of each session.
EDLINE:  Edline is a home-school connection tool that allows parents to access their children's grades, assignments and other school news using the internet.  This program is available to all MMS parents.  Please contact Nancy Hardy at nhardy@msd3.org, if you are interested.  Your child's progress in Accelerated Reading is also available online. :)
LITERACY LAB:  Literacy Lab is a part of our state's Smart Step initiative to help adolescents achieve. This program requires teachers to be trained for two years in order to be certified. We currently have 6 teachers who have completed the certification. Literacy Lab (Lit Lab) includes reading, writing and thinking strategies.  Students move through different types of instruction: whole group, guided readers, independent readers and literature studies. One unique feature of Literacy Lab is that the Lit Lab teachers create classroom libraries.  These classroom libraries and the MMS school library give our students many, many literature choices.  Sixth and Seventh graders are able to choose books that appeal to their individual interests which encourages them to read more.  The more a person reads, the better he/she can read, which makes it more enjoyable.  When students enjoy what they are doing, they want to do it more.  This cycle is the basis for the program.
WIRELESS LAPTOP LAB:  MMS is adding more and more technology to aid our students' progress.  Our wireless laptop lab was added at the beginning of the 2005-2006 school year.  Two days every week each English teacher uses the laptop lab in her classes.  On those days, curriculum is taught using the computers. Our students use software programs such as PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher, Inspiration, and others to enhance their classroom learning. Our sixth and seventh grade students are increasing their writing abilities by using a new program called Vantage Learning/Go My Access.
VANTAGE LEARNING/Go My Access:  This program gives the students practice in all 5 writing domains:  Focus and Meaning, Content and Development, Organization, Language Use and Style, and Mechanics and Conventions. Students also use all steps of the writing practice from prewriting to publishing with emphasis on editing and revising. Scores in each domain as well as overall scores are almost instantly available, giving our students the motivation to use the helps that are available to revise/edit and submit again for a better grade.
